Three reasons to choose Olam

  1. 1

    A real island

Munroe Island is where the Kallada river runs out into Ashtamudi lake. You are on it, not near it.

  2. 2

    A home, not a hotel

A little house with a garden, a living room and a long common balcony. You are meant to use all of it.

  3. 3

    We'll help you explore

The canoe canals, the kayaking, getting around the island — we'll arrange it with the people who do it.

At Olam, we've tried to create more than just a place to stay — a space that feels warm, unhurried and homely.

The house

A little home tucked away in the quiet beauty of Munroe Island, where the days move a little slower, the evenings feel a little softer and nature is never too far away.

Mundrothuruthu

Canals barely wider than the boat

Munroe Island is a cluster of small islands where the Kallada river meets Ashtamudi lake. The canoe tour runs two to three hours and is best at sunrise or late in the afternoon — small boats, six people at most.

You pass coir retting and weaving, prawn and fish farms, boat building, fishermen working the shallows. Kingfishers and herons. During Onam the Kallada snake boats race here.

We don't sell the trips — we'll just help you arrange one.

The house

Honey teak, cream walls, and green pressing at every window

A new house, built plainly and well: teak windows and doors, polished cream floors, black granite and grey quartz in the working rooms, stainless railings on the balcony.

Before you come

The practical part

Send us your dates, how many of you there are and which room you'd prefer. We'll check and come back to you. WhatsApp is fastest.

Yes — we'll arrange it with the local boatmen, along with kayaking and getting around the island. We don't run the trips ourselves.

It is. So are tea and coffee, toiletries, hot water round the clock, WiFi, parking and the newspaper.
