A relaxing retreat along the backwaters of Kallada.

Find your rhythm, find your OLAM

Munroe Island, Kerala

Welcome to Olam by Plasseril

A little home tucked away in the quiet beauty of Munroe Island, where the days move a little slower, the evenings feel a little softer and nature is never too far away.

At Olam, we’ve tried to create more than just a place to stay โ€” a space that feels warm, unhurried and homely.

Olam (เด“เดณเด‚) is Malayalam for a ripple. A small, slow wave.

Bedroom with a corner wall of teak casement windows onto the palms

Every window is a green one

Teak frames, cream walls, and outside them the island pressing in โ€” areca, coconut, the light going soft by four o’clock.

The verandah

The long side of the house

It runs the whole length upstairs โ€” teak soffit above, white parapet in front, palm trunks going up past it. This is where the day gets spent.

Common spaces are open to everyone staying: garden, living room, dining area, and this balcony.

Where the Kallada meets Ashtamudi

Munroe Island

A cluster of small islands in Kollam district, where the Kallada River runs into Ashtamudi Lake. Locally, Mundrothuruthu.

The canoe canal tour is the thing people come for โ€” two to three hours through canals barely wider than the boat, best at sunrise or late afternoon. Small boats, about six people. Kayaking too, in small groups.

On the water you pass coir retting and weaving, fishing, prawn farms, boat building. Kingfishers and herons. During Onam, the Kallada snake-boat race is held here.

We don’t sell trips โ€” we just help you arrange them. Tell us what you’d like to do and we’ll sort it out with the people who do it.
