Welcome

Welcome to Olam by Plasseril

A little home tucked away in the quiet beauty of Munroe Island, where the days move a little slower, the evenings feel a little softer and nature is never too far away.

At Olam, we’ve tried to create more than just a place to stay — a space that feels warm, unhurried and homely.

Sunlit upper verandah with coconut palm trunks rising past the white parapet
Open glazed teak door leading onto a private balcony

The rooms

Teak, white linen, and a window full of green

Bright bedroom with a teak bed, panelled headboard and white linen
Bedroom with a corner wall of teak casement windows onto the palms
Bedroom with full-height glazed doors opening onto the balcony
Bedroom with a run of teak windows onto areca and coconut palms
Guest bathroom with a frameless glass shower screen and beige onyx-look tile

Queen sized beds

Teak frames, panelled headboards, white cotton. The floors are polished cream tile, cool underfoot, and the ceilings are lined in teak plank.

A wall of windows

Rooms open onto a corner run of teak casement windows. Air conditioning, a personal TV, a cane stool, a snake plant in a terracotta pot. Nothing more than you need.

Doors onto the balcony

Some rooms have full-height glazed doors that open straight onto the upper verandah — you can step out with your morning tea and stand under the teak soffit.

Areca and coconut

Every window blows out to green. Areca and coconut palms press right up to the glass, so the light inside stays warm and the view stays wild.

Ensuite bathrooms

A frameless glass shower screen, beige onyx-look tile, a basin and a wide mirror. Hot water round the clock, and toiletries left out for you.

Common spaces

The parts of the house that belong to everyone

A living room, a dining area, an open kitchen counter and a verandah that runs the length of the house. The garden and the common balcony are yours to use.

Munroe Island

Where the Kallada meets Ashtamudi

Munroe Island — Mundrothuruthu — is a cluster of small islands in Kollam district, where the Kallada River runs out into Ashtamudi Lake.

The headline thing to do here is the canoe canal tour: two to three hours in a small country boat, through canals barely wider than the boat itself. It is best at sunrise or late afternoon, and the boats carry around six people. Kayaking is possible too, in small groups.

We’ll help you arrange it. We don’t sell packages — we just know who to call.

  • On the waterCoir retting and weaving, traditional fishing, prawn and fish farming, boat building, sand mining — all of it happening at the edge of the canal as you pass.
  • BirdlifeMigratory and backwater birds. Kingfishers and herons are the ones you’ll notice first.
  • Kallada Boat RaceThe famous snake-boat race is held here during the ten-day Onam festival season.

Photograph to come

We don’t have a picture of the canals yet. Rather than show you something else and call it the backwaters, we’ve left the frame empty.
