01 — Welcome

A little home tucked away in the quiet beauty of Munroe Island.

Where the days move a little slower, the evenings feel a little softer and nature is never too far away.

At Olam, we've tried to create more than just a place to stay — a space that feels warm, unhurried and homely.

Olam is Malayalam for a gentle ripple. It seemed like the right name for a house beside this much still water.

Teak, cream plaster and a window onto green. The house repeats this frame everywhere.

02 — The rooms

Rooms that face the palms.

Queen beds, air conditioning, a personal TV, hot water around the clock. Everything else is teak, white linen and whatever the trees are doing that morning.

Availability is confirmed by us directly — send a message and we'll come back to you.

05 — Where you are

Munroe Island മുണ്ട്രോതുരുത്ത്

A cluster of small islands where the Kallada river meets Ashtamudi lake, in Kollam district. Olam sits on it.

The canoe canal tour

The headline reason people come. Two to three hours in a small local boat, through canals barely wider than the boat itself. Best at sunrise or late afternoon. Boats carry around six people.

Usually booked through your homestay — we'll help you arrange it.

Kayaking

Also available, in small groups.

What you pass on the water

Coir retting and weaving, traditional fishing, prawn and fish farming, boat building, sand mining. Ordinary work, happening at the speed it has always happened at.

Birdlife

Migratory and backwater birds. Kingfishers and herons, mostly, and mostly before the heat arrives.

The Kallada Boat Race

The famous snake-boat race is held here, during the ten days of the Onam festival season.

Arranging any of it

We don't sell packages. We do know everyone, and we're happy to make the calls for you.

Photography pending

We haven't photographed the canals yet. Rather than show you something that isn't the backwaters, we've left this space empty until we have.
